Our Goals Are

  • To foster genealogical interests and activites in the counties of Alcona, Alpena, Montmorency, and Presque Isle in Northeast Michigan.
  • To encourage and preserve family history and genealogical records.
  • To encourage area entities to expand and publicize their genealogical holdings.
  • To make materials of interest available to genealogists and the general public.

Meetings are held on the third (3rd) Thursday of the month and will meet at least six times annually usually at the Besser Museum. Meetings frequently include speakers, and all meetings have time for sharing and questions regarding genealogical research. Throughout the year, the needs of the experienced genealogist, as well as beginners, are addressed.

Most often, the place and time of the meeting is published in our quarterly newsletter and of course here, on our website. In collaboration with these two mediums, announcements are made on the radio and in the area newspapers.

NEMGS dues are $10.00 per individual, or $12.00 per family. Our newsletter ‘Roots and Branches’ is available on a one-per-household basis. All dues shall be paid annually by January 1st and span a single calendar year. An optional lifetime membership of $180.00 is available also.
