The Northeast Michigan Genealogical Society was founded in 1976 and is a non-profit organization under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code 19. Donations, gifts, and legacies are all tax deductible.

Alcona County
Created in 1840 from Alpena and Cheboygan Counties. Organized in 1869, the county seat is Harrisville. Originally called Neewago County, the name was changed in 1843.

Created in 1831 from Cheboygan County. Organized in 1857, the count seat is Alpena. Originally called Anamickee, the name was changed in 1843.

Created in 1840 from Cheboygan and Alpena Counties. Organized in 1881, the county seat is Atlanta. Originally called Cheonoquet, the name was changed in 1843.
